Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a long way from full reconciliation, with the country as religiously and culturally divided as ever. During the war in Bosnia, many women were victims of war rape and other forms of gender-based violence (GBV) among all ethnic groups, and an unknown number of children were conceived by violence as a tactic of war. In the context of such trauma and recovery from it, women are the most vulnerable group in need of protection and support. Some 80% of survivors continue to experience psychological and physical symptoms. Children born as a result of war rape are now entering their early twenties (22–25 years of age). These young adults are experiencing a number of difficult challenges as they come to terms with their identity. It is RMF’s goal to provide a safe space where women of different cultures and generations can come together for healing.
